My name is Kali Clougherty, and I’m a New York City-based performer, director, producer, and playwright. I’m thrilled to share that my debut play, Catholic School Girlz, has been selected for The Chain Theatre’s Summer One Act Festival, with three performances scheduled this summer!
Following a successful staged reading at The Tank and a one-night performance at The Paradise Factory Theatre, we’re so excited to bring this story back to the stage.
To make this production the best it can be, we’re aiming to raise $1000 to support our incredible cast and invest in essential costumes and props. Every contribution—no matter the size—makes a meaningful impact.
We’re so grateful for your support and can’t wait to welcome you to The Chain Theatre this summer!

SYNOPSIS:
Middle School. A time of self-discovery and dread. In this raunchy nostalgic comedy, a group of Catholic choir girls navigate their religious beliefs, peer pressure, and friendships all while going through puberty. But when two best friends confess their feelings for each other, questions of sexuality, morality, and trust are at stake. Catholic School Girlz celebrates young queer love and girlhood.
THE PLAYWRIGHT'S BIO:
Kali Clougherty (she/they) is a queer NYC-based actor and multi-hyphenate creative originally from South Florida. They graduated from the BFA Music Theatre program at Elon University in 2022. Kali recently played Dawn in Waitress with Prather Productions. She made her Off-Broadway debut in Pinkalicious as Dr. Wink/Alison at The Actor's Temple. She later performed as punk rock Little Red Ridinghood in Into the Woods (Prima Theatre) directed by Six: The Musical's Galia Bakal and Emma Nolan in The Prom at The Media Theatre.
Kali is a recovering Catholic School Girl, having attended one for 10 years throughout elementary and middle school. The only thing that got her through that tough time was her friends and singing in Choir. During the height of the pandemic in 2020, lots of time spent at home led Kali to come out as bisexual and find a creative outlet in their writing. Hence, Catholic School Girlz was born. This story is inspired by her time in middle school as a budding bisexual, theatre-loving, One Direction-obsessed weirdo. This is her debut play.
