My name is Priscilla Yellow Horse, I’m Kaden’s Aunt. Kaden is a 13-year-old boy who was diagnosed with cirrhosis secondary to autosomal recessive neonatal sclerosis cholangitis and Chiari 1 malformation. Kaden was healthy until he was transferred to UMMCH in February 2024 due to liver failure.
While admitted, it was discovered he carries a gene (DCDC2). Inherited by both parents, it is described as a rare ciliopathy disorder that has been described in about 30 individuals in medical literature.
Since February, Kaden has been working with his doctors at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.
Kaden was put on the liver transplant list after a series of testing. At the testing, it was also discovered after an angiogram, Kaden had AVM - an abnormal connection between arteries and veins in his frontal lobe. Later, after the liver transplant, he will be having surgery on his frontal lobe on the brain.
Kaden’s parents and I have been traveling to Minnesota in the last 6 months to follow up on Kaden’s care. On July 19, 2024 Kaden got the call and a liver was found, Dad (Lorenzo) and Kaden were flown to Masonic and he went into surgery at 6pm. This will be months of monitoring and Parents will have to stay close to the hospital until Kaden is successful with the liver. The strain on the parent’s financial status will be tough. We will appreciate any help or even prayers. This will be a long journey to recovery and our Kaden bug is ready for this challenge. He is happy and excited about the new liver. Tells us he can’t wait to eat McDonald’s. Kaden will be at the children’s hospital in the next 2 months and possibly more.
