It's heartbreaking to have to create this page. Justin has been in the hospital since March 8, and in ICU since March 9. Molly has been at the hospital with him, at his side every day, and then home that evening to give more love to their kids and tuck them in for the night. Molly and their kids, 2 year old daughter and 9 week old son, are being strong and dedicated to Justin getting better and coming home.
WHAT'S WRONG?
Justin went into the hospital with the flu, and had a very difficult time breathing. Molly took him to Kaiser Moreno Valley, where he was admitted immediately, he was diagnosed with pneumonia on top of the Flu H1N1. His condition deteriorated and less than 24 hours later, Molly had to make the difficult decision to let the medical team intubate him so he could be placed on a ventilator to help him breath. After little improvement, the medical team needed to paralyze him with medication so his body could start to heal. Consequently, he was then transferred to ICU. Among the challenging complications that were diagnosed were: Flu H1N1, Staph Infection in both his lungs and blood, a very persistent fever which required cooling blankets, and ARDS (Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome) which effects his respiratory system.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The doctors are taking aggressive measures to combat what his body is fighting, but there is little change. On March 16, Justin, thankfully, was accepted and then airlifted to UCLA's Cardiac Surgery ICU for a more specialized treatment called ECMO.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Both Molly and Justin have a lot of support from loving family, but Justin's stay in the hospital is unknown, and his recovery will be long. With the loss of Justin's income as well as Molly's income, the expected medical bills, Mortgage, and day-to-day home expenses, bills are piling up. Anything you can do to help this young family, so they can stay focused on Justin's wellness, would be forever appreciated. Justin has the biggest heart, he can be friends with anyone, he works hard, is a great Father and Husband and Son. Please help make his transition home an easier one. His and her entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely, Sirpa (Molly's Aunt) & Elizabeth (Justin's Sister)
