Hello! My name is Annie, and I am setting up this fundraiser on behalf of my brother-in-law, Julio. Following 3 strokes over 3 days at the beginning of this May, our goal is to raise $10k to cover his medical and rehabilitation bills, as well as the closing cost of the house which he and my sister, Eliza, were set to buy.

Julio married my sister, Eliza, less than a year ago, and they have a beautiful baby boy. Julio has been a truly wonderful husband and father, and he treats his 13-year-old stepson as his own.

This all started with him tearing an artery at the base of his brain when he was at the gym. This led to an onslaught of clots, resulting in 3 strokes. Doctors were able to insert a stent, bringing the strokes to an end, but now begins the road to recovery. Julio has lost control of his right side, and his speech is significantly impaired. He is now in a rehabilitation center, constantly working to regain the ability to walk, use his dominant hand, and speak clearly. It is nothing short of a miracle that Julio is alive, and now we pray for healing.

Shortly before all of this happened, Julio and Eliza were preparing to buy a house. This move is now necessary as their current apartment is not handicap-friendly, and it cannot be modified adequately. Money raised through this page will largely help Julio and Eliza cover the closing cost of the house. In light of this situation, the closing costs needed to be refinanced through just Eliza, making this a much greater financial burden. What was previously fully within their budget is now more challenging. The rest will go toward making any necessary changes to make the house more accessible and all hospital/rehab expenses that insurance will not cover.
