, my name is Jose, and I’ve been battling Type 1 diabetes for over 25 years. I’ve always done my best to live life fully — working hard, supporting my family, and trying to stay positive through the challenges.
But in 2020, my world changed. When I caught COVID-19, the virus triggered renal failure and my kidneys stopped working. Since then, my life has revolved around dialysis 3 times a week — each session lasting 4 hours — just to stay alive.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Between dialysis treatments, managing my diabetes, trying to work full-time, and keeping up with family responsibilities, I’m exhausted — physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Some days, the strain has nearly taken my life. I’ve had multiple life-threatening hypoglycemic episodes, where my blood sugar has dropped dangerously low (below 40). I’ve been hospitalized, and even survived a car accident caused by a sudden drop in my sugar levels.
The Financial Strain
Even with insurance, the medical bills keep piling up. I’m trying to raise $20,000 to help cover:
Time off work so I can focus on my health without risking my home
Out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered by insurance
Caregiver costs for the days I’m too weak to manage alone
Basic living expenses while my health takes priority
How Your Help Will Make a Difference
Reaching this goal would mean I could take the time I need to rest, recover, and stabilize my health without the constant fear of losing everything I’ve worked for. It would give me precious time to spend with my family and friends — something my illness has taken from me far too often.
Every single donation, no matter the amount, brings me closer to having the strength and stability I need to keep fighting. Even if you can’t give financially, sharing my story means the world to me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing by me in this fight.
