For those who don't know, my son Joseph was born into this world missing a part of his left hand due to a condition called Amniotic Band Syndrome or ABS. Since before he took his first breath it's become my mission to ensure our child has a regular life. It's been important to me that my son grows up confident and comfortable. I never wanted him to lean on a crutch, but to be adjusted to life just as he was, however as time has gone on I've also recognized how much easier life could be for him if he DID have a tool of sorts to assist with his day to day life. So I got in contact with an amazing company called Open Bionics that specializes in robotic prosthetics, this has been YEARS in the making .
Originally we found them when Joe was around 6 or 7, but they require a minimum age of around 8 to begin and Joseph will be 11 on May 6th. This journey to get Joseph hooked up with a new arm is finally coming to a close and I'd be lying if I said I didn't need a little help, and if you know me then you know I'd almost rather die than ask for help at times ... we've gone to get him sized and next we're going to get the arm just before his birthday, though some crowd funding would REALLY make this possible in the end. I'm sharing a snippet of our trip to Colorado a few months ago so you can see an example of Joe using one of their testers and the CONFIDENCE he had in being able to try it out made my heart was so full.
Joseph has brought his "Hero Arm" home and he is the first in the U.S.A. to get it in the Miles Morales Spiderman style. Please help us to keep it by reaching our goal of $7k.
