As many people are already aware, Jonny Fritz has been hospitalized and battling a very serious lung infection. On June 7th Jonny started not feeling well, and a few days later he went to urgent care because he had trouble breathing. At the urgent care his oxygen saturations were very low and it was determined he needed more emergent care. EMS transported Jonny from the urgent care to Mercy South Hospital. Upon arrival to the emergency department, Jonny was in critical condition with oxygen saturations in the 60s. He was in need of respiratory intervention. Jonny was put into a medically induced coma, intubated, and admitted to the ICU. Due to the severity of Jonny’s illness and persistent decline, he was life-flighted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis at 3 AM on June 12th with a 50/50 chance of survival. To save his life, Jonny was started on ECMO. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO) is a form of life support providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to people whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of oxygen, gas exchange or blood supply to sustain life. He has officially been diagnosed with Legionnaires Disease. This is a severe lung infection that is often fatal if not provided prompt treatment. Luckily Jonny’s treatment started right away, but he has a long road to a full recovery. With this severe of a case of Legionnaires Disease he may require weeks, if not months, of rehab to get back to the Jonny we all know and love.

While Jonny remains hospitalized his medical bills continue to accumulate. Medical bills are the last thing we want Jonny to worry about while trying to recover, but we did confirm that Jonny is uninsured at the time. Making a full recovery needs to be his primary focus.
