Hello Everyone...my name is Katie Halverson. I'm starting this Go Fund for my Dad...Jon Halverson <3 For many of you that know my Dad, he's one of kind. He is compassionate, caring and goes above and beyond for others. He literally is "the guy who would give his shirt off his back for you". Let's back track to February of this year. For about the last 20 years Dad has experienced chronic pain in his whole body. Aside from caring for his wife and children, Jon also cared for both sets of parents, his and his wife Joann's, in their home until they passed. Needless to say, Dad put his own health on the back burner for a long time to care, support and provide for his family in all aspects. In the last 10 years, Dad has really taken a good look at his condition and has put forth good effort in losing 200 pounds, being almost 450 at his heaviest. Losing the weight definitely made him feel better but the chronic pain was still there and getting worse everyday, at times bringing him to tears. In February we decided that enough was enough and started getting answers to why. Dad has sever Lumbar Spinal Stenosis. He experiences no back pain. All his pain is from the waist down. Effecting his mobility. We've got through all the steps, pain injections, physical therapy, nothing was making improvement. We then got the news that Dad's only option left is back surgery. We were in agreement and started going forth for surgery. During some of Dad's pre-op testing, we came to find that Dad's heart isn't in good shape. He has been diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease. He is needing Open Heart surgery as soon as 6 weeks. I know that we are all in the same place financially, just trying to get by. My concern for my Dad is he has no available resources to support him and Mom while he is not able to work for 12 weeks during recovery. We have looked and all options that may have been possible, coming up short merely because of the urgency for the surgery to be done so my Dad can live. He does recieve benefits from his job, just nothing that is going to help him in this situation. His employer pays his health insurance 100% but when he is not going to be working, he will have to cover his own health insurance. I'm turning here, asking for some help so that I can put my Dad's mind at ease and he can focus on mentally and physically preparing for this surgery. Feeling defeated and like my Dad just can't catch a break, please help me in showing support for him and helping him get through this difficult time. Because of his heart being in the shape it is, the back surgery needs to be put on the back burner for now. He will be recovering from the heart surgery while still struggling with his spinal stenosis pain. Thank you in advance for reading and God Bless every single one of you!<3
