Our family was deeply shaken in November 2023 when my brother, Jim Barganier, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. His courage and resilience in the face of this overwhelming challenge have been nothing short of inspiring. As he continues to fight this battle, we are reaching out for support to help him and his family through this difficult time.

Jim has always been the steadfast pillar that holds our family together. His strength, compassion, and unwavering support have been the foundation upon which our family has thrived. From the early days of our childhood to the present, he has been the one we turn to in times of need and joy and a good old-fashioned laugh. A devoted husband to Lori Barganier, and a loving father to Zak, Reese and Kimber(dog), he has consistently put his family first even during the most challenging time of his life.

In November 2023, after months of unexplained symptoms and discomfort, Jim was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which had, unfortunately, metastasized to his liver and abdominal wall.

Fast forward, Jim has completed 8 very aggressive cycles of biologic and chemotherapy. More recently, in April 2024, Jim was able to start a clinical trial treatment plan. The idea being that the immunotherapy agents would be gentler on his body overall but still go to work and keep fighting the cancer that so rudely decided to take up residence uninvited.

Since starting the trial, Jim has had two CT scans with some incredible outcomes which we attribute to love the love and support of so many.

What’s remarkable about being in a clinical trial is that you have so many extra eyes looking at you and so many more tools in the toolbox. So, when Jim and Lori initially met with their Super Amazing Oncologist and team, he informed them not only that the cancer had not spread or grown, but it’s still SHRINKING!!!!

After the first scan the spots they watch shrunk by 7% and now another 12% as of August 2024. Overall, since the beginning of the trial, the specific spots they are watching have shrunk by about 18%.

It’s small, but it’s steady, and that’s what wins the race! Despite the gravity of his condition, he faces each day with remarkable bravery, hope, energy and one hell of an appetite lol.

How You Can Help:
1. Contribute Financially: We are seeking financial support to help cover Jim’s medical expenses and alleviate the financial burden on their family.
2. Spread the Word: Sharing Jim’s story with your network can help increase awareness and rally additional support. The more people know, the more help and resources we can gather.

Conclusion
Jim’s strength and the support of our family in the face of stage 4 colon cancer are truly inspiring. We are incredibly grateful for the love and support we have already received. It truly does take a village.
