My name is Jill Smith and I am a Special Education middle school teacher in southeast Georgia. I teach Science, Georgia Studies, English Language Arts, and Math to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in a small group setting.
While teaching Georgia Studies, I have taught my students about their state's capital of Atlanta. None of my students have ever been to Atlanta. I decided that I wanted to plan an exciting, educational trip to show my students what they have been learning about. My students are very visual learners and for them to travel to see the capital, the birth home of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Coca-Cola museum, and the Atlanta aquarium would help the students visualize the concepts that they are learning about and help them retain that knowledge.
After researching the cost of a charter bus trip to Atlanta for 16 students and 4 adults, I have estimated the cost to be $4,800. I truly wish I personally had the money to fund this trip but I don't, so I am hoping to raise the amount to be able to take my class to see and experience Atlanta. For many of my students, this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Please consider donating - any amount would be greatly appreciated.
