Hi, my name is Jesus. My brother and I lost our home in the fire on Kahako St. We've been living in Maui for 16 years and were in our home for 11 years. We've always been landscaping in Lahaina. We were able to get some part time work doing yard cleaning but work is slower since the fires. My brother has diabetes. He got an infection on his left foot and now it's spread to the other leg so he can't work and is dependent on my income. Unfortunately, we don't qualify for a lot of the aid. Our family (spouses and children and grandchildren) back in Mexico are also reliant on our income. It was never easy but before the fires we were able to support them somewhat. Now we can't even support ourselves.
The day of the fire we lost everything. We got out of our rental with only the clothes on our back. Due to lack of good command of the English language and not knowing where to go for help for 22 days, we were homeless. We didn't know where to go and we slept in an abandoned cars. We are now able to stay Honokowai temporarily but they can only guarantee us housing till January 1. We will then be moved to another temporary arrangement but don't know for how long.
Any donations are much appreciated. The money will go to medication for my brothers treatment. We are saving to get our own rental without assistance so we can be independent again.
Thank you for your support.
