Early Monday morning, my youngest sister, Jessie Johnson, suffered a severe tear within her colon. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital where she very rapidly declined and required emergency surgery. She is struggling to survive because the tear allowed fecal matter to fill her abdomen, which has caused her body to become septic, leading to shock.
Collectively as a family, we've made the hard decision to reach out for help from our friends and family afar. Jessie's body is fighting hard but her life is still very much at risk, and we're all struggling to cope with this.
The reality of the situation is we're all hoping for a speedy recovery, but that just won't be the case for her. Life will look vastly different. Jessie was on a ventilator and heavily sedated to allow her body time to try and recover. She is fighting hard through sepsis, surgery, and shock, all of which have left her body in ruins. She'll be living life now with a colostomy bag and all of the tough adjustments that this comes with.
As a woman in her early 30s, this is going to affect her in so many more ways than anyone can imagine.
With such a life-altering event, Jessie will be left unable to work, living in a less-than-ideal housing situation to care for her new ostomy, and battling depression, which will worsen given this situation.
We've decided that crowdfunding to help give some relief in an unimaginable situation would be best.
Our biggest concern for Jessie beyond the initial physical recovery is her housing situation. She is the proud new owner of a "tiny house" on her own slice of heaven down by the river. The only and biggest downside to this is the lack of running water and bathroom situation. With a stoma and colostomy bag, a bathroom with running water is an absolute necessity. We're hoping to raise funds to ease the expenses that will come with ostomy care, as well as ensure mental health services can be accessed, relieving the financial burden of travel expenses for both Jessie and family members who have and will be traveling 7 hours to be by her side, and most importantly, to ensure she has suitable housing accommodations for her and her son.
If you've read this far, thank you. Jessie's fearful situation has left us all feeling helpless, and any amount of comfort we can offer her in this time of need is so greatly appreciated. As a precautionary measure we've all agreed that the funds will be allocated in a respectful and mindful manner by trusted individuals whom care so much about Jessie.
Please say a prayer or send healing vibes regardless if you're able to help monetarily. We need all of the positive energy for our Jessie Bean ❤️
