Hi, my name is Jenn. I’m a mother, a psychotherapist, a group practice owner, and a fierce advocate for my daughter.
For over 12 years, I’ve carried the emotional and financial weight of ongoing legal battles, medical emergencies, and efforts to protect my daughter from medical and physical neglect. She is a child and has been through more than any child should: a feeding tube, multiple specialist visits, mental health care, numerous infections, and repeated hospitalizations. Through it all, I’ve been by her side—filing court motions or defending myself when being sued, standing up for her health, and doing everything I can to give her a chance to thrive and have a life of happiness and peace.
On June 18th, I again withheld my child from a court-ordered custody exchange because of serious medical concerns. I filed for an emergency hearing the same day. I’ve done this before and was sued for contempt of court, but I won that case—proving just cause to protect my child. I am prepared to do the same again, even as I face the emotional and financial toll of defending my actions and continuing to advocate for her care.
Here’s why I’m asking for your support:
While caring for my daughter, I also lead a mental health group practice that serves over 120 clients. I carry the weight of others’ healing as a licensed professional counselor, a supervisor to upcoming practitioners seeking their license, newly published author, and volunteer who helps women of color heal from trauma. I am doing all of this while managing legal filings, hospital paperwork, aftercare instructions, and the everyday needs of a high-needs child as a single parent.
This is not just a moment of hardship—it’s a long fight for stability, and I need help holding it all together and being able to sustain energy and time to sustain my private group practice that has been established for over 5 years to support others in my community. I have filed for future court dates (August 1st and September 23rd).
I have an attorney that has been representing me and my daughter for over 8 years and there is an expense for her services as well as the demand of keeping up with everyday obligations. The professional obligations of running a group private practice owner are high, especially when the practice is sustained by clients who utilize insurance in order to afford mental health care.
Your donation will help cover:
My daughter's ongoing medical and hopeful mental health care
Legal fees and court filings to protect her rights and safety
Lost wages from time missed due to court and hospital visits (I am a fee-for-service worker. I lose finances during her hospital stays and court/legal proceedings)
Transportation, gas, parking, and daily necessities
Rebuilding emergency savings depleted by over a decade of crises.
Basic services that help me function as a full-time mother and therapist, like food prep, gym/yoga studio membership, and mental health counseling for myself.
Providing Jenn more mental, emotional, and physical energy space to continue in her professional demands and continue to serve her community while also being a single parent.
Other Ways to Help:
If you’d prefer to support in non-monetary ways, I’ve created a Google spreadsheet that lists the practical, everyday needs I manage as a single parent to a high-needs child.
Some of those items include:
Meal prep or food delivery
Membership support for health/wellness services that help me stay mentally strong
Proof Read and Edit Court Documents
Help Organize and Label Evidence ( digitally and Physically)
Create/Organize Timelines/Summaries/ Binders
Provide Notary Services ( if you are licensed)
Offer rides to and from Court Appointments
Scan Documents for Court Prep ( We have 6 years worth of paperwork to go through)
Organize scanned documents on a private drive
If you'd like access to that list, I’d be honored to share it with you. Every act of help—big or small—makes a tangible difference in our lives right now.
I’ve spent the last 12 years fighting to protect my daughter and still show up for others in my community. I am asking now for you to show up for us. Whether you give $5 or simply share this story, you’re helping us reclaim safety, healing, and peace and help a WOC show up for others seeking mental health care services during their time of need.
With love, strength, and deep gratitude,
Jenn
