Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Kindhearted Strangers,
I never imagined I’d be writing this, but the reality of life in Los Angeles County during this unprecedented fire season has brought me to a point where I need to ask for help.
As I write this, the Palisades Fire—the worst in California’s history—is raging directly next door to my neighborhood. Thick smoke fills the air, carrying toxic remnants of homes built decades ago, and my community has been placed in a red flag evacuation zone. The stress and uncertainty of this situation have made daily life incredibly challenging.
I am a gig worker, and under normal circumstances, I work tirelessly to make ends meet. However, the fires have drastically reduced demand for my services, leaving me unable to cover my essential bills.
• Rent: $2,500/month
• Car payment: $883/month
• Gas bill: $200/month
• Wi-Fi/phone bill: $150/month
• Groceries and other living expenses
In total, I am seeking $6,000 to sustain me through February, by which time I hope to see my work opportunities improve.
But this isn’t just about me. While trying to keep my own head above water, I’m also committed to supporting others in my community who have lost everything to these fires. Every day, I do what I can to help, even if it’s simply offering a meal, a ride, or an empathetic ear.
Asking for help is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I’ve come to realize that community is built on connection and support. If you are in a position to donate, even a few dollars will make an enormous difference. And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your network.
Your kindness will not only help me keep a roof over my head during this difficult time but will also empower me to continue showing up for those who need it most.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity, compassion, and belief in our ability to weather this storm together.
With gratitude and hope,
Jennifer
