My name is Christine, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my cousin, Jeffrey Reyes, 47, who is in the Philippines. He’s been in the hospital for over a month, fighting for his life as he battles Stage 4 nasopharyngeal cancer for the second time. The only thing keeping him going is the thought of his two young children, ages 12 and 6, who still need their father.

Jeffrey has endured more than anyone should in one lifetime. He was abandoned as an infant and raised by my uncle and our grandmother, who gave him the love and care he was denied at birth.

Due to old age, both my uncle and grandmother have since passed away. Our mother—my uncle’s sister— stepped in to help Jeffrey. She’s now in her late 70s and has her own health issues, yet she continues to support him in any way she can. As a family, we are doing all we can, but we cannot do this alone.

Before his illness, Jeffrey was a hardworking, devoted father and reliable provider. But after being diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer, everything changed.

He underwent radiation therapy and entered remission—but not without lasting damage. He lost about 60% of his vision, experienced partial hearing loss, and suffered severe damage to his nose, mouth, palate, and throat. These complications have made eating painful and difficult, and he now depends on a removable dental prosthesis to chew food. His speech has also become nasal and unclear.

These physical changes have deeply affected his confidence. Jeffrey now wears a mask to cover his nose and mouth—not just for comfort, but to hide the visible effects of his condition.

As if that weren’t enough, his partner left him during remission, leaving him to care for their two young children alone while still struggling with the emotional and physical scars left by cancer.

Now, as the cancer has returned, Jeffrey will soon undergo chemotherapy in hopes of saving his life and giving him more time with his children. He is fighting harder than ever, but he can’t do it alone.
