Jay's Medical and Short Term Living Expenses

Anne Cameron and Michael Evans are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of their beloved friends Jay Rothman and Mary Kelley to help cover Jay’s quickly rising medical costs and their living expenses.

On July 8th, Anne received a call from Mary, the love of Jay’s life, sharing that while Jay was in Denver officiating a friend’s wedding, he started having trouble breathing & experiencing chest pain. They figured it was from the high altitude and yet, when they made it home, his chest pain had not gone away, and they wondered if he had a collapsed lung.

Being very holistic, Mary texted Anne to see if she had any Ayurvedic suggestions for difficulty breathing. After hearing Jay’s symptoms, Anne called Mary and urged them to go immediately to the Emergency Room.

Fortunately they did, because at the ER, they discovered that his chest pain was the result of a heart attack suffered in Denver and considering his artery in his heart was 99% blocked, he was lucky to have survived the high-altitude flight home.

To compound the situation, Jay started experiencing secondary challenges with Pericarditis and significant trauma to his right hand, wrist and arm due to circumstances while under the care of his medical team during his first 36 hours in ICU.

As a result, Jay continues to be in debilitating chronic pain, particularly at night, making sleep extremely difficult. It also makes it very difficult for him to rest and recover the energy he needs to ultimately fully heal, rejuvenate & return to the heart-centered service work which he so dearly loves!

All of this has also deeply impacted his life partner Mary, who has been steadfastly by his side 24/7, driving him to appointments, stepping in as his caretaker and advocate, managing their household, and updating friends and family on his condition.

Jay is, without a doubt, one of the kindest, most generous loving human beings that any of us have been fortunate enough to know. As we have experienced from the first time we met Jay, he always shows up with his heart wide open to share love and compassion with everyone he engages with.

Unfortunately, his recovery back to full health and vitality is proving to be a much longer healing journey than originally anticipated.

Even with insurance, it is quickly becoming apparent that Jay’s out of pocket medical expenses alone are well into the tens of thousands of dollars.

In this unanticipated new season, let’s open our hearts and take action for Jay with a donation to help him cover his medical and short-term living expenses! It's our turn now to show up for Jay with our love and support to help him get back on his feet.

The funds from this page will go directly to Jay to use to pay for his current medical, rehabilitation and everyday living expenses that have now ballooned beyond Jay and Mary’s means. They will also be used for anticipated future costs as they arise.
