On March 7, 2025, my dad, Jason, was in a motorcycle accident. On impact, he severed the nerves in his right side, causing a permanent loss in his right extremity. He hyperextended his neck, causing him to suffer a spinous process fracture that resulted in him becoming paralyzed from the nipple line down and losing fine motor function in his left hand. The trauma team deemed him non-surgical with little to no hope of sensation ever coming back to his lower half.
When admitted on the night of 03/07, he was breathing on his own, yet after nearly 20 hours, he began to struggle and was placed on a ventilator, giving him full support. The loss of being able to breathe on his own has been the biggest hurdle so far. The tracheostomy given on 03/10 resulted in MRSA pneumonia and CRE, causing his stay in Mission Hospital ICU to last for nearly 50 days. He is currently in a Sub Acute Unit (SAU) in Anaheim and slowly getting weaned off the ventilator. He will continue to need 24-hour skilled care for the unforeseeable future, along with life in a wheelchair and special transportation needs.
At heart my dad is an outdoorsman and has been his whole life. This adjustment to this new lifestyle is going to take time, mental, and physical strength. He is the toughest guy that my brother and I know and will do everything to push through each day that lies ahead. If feel like you can't donate, please do not stretch yourself thin to, a prayer for our father is more than enough.
