Hi everyone,
My name is Roy Kuroyanagi and I’m the owner of Japangeles, a clothing store based in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. On January 8, my cousin and also our Japangeles staff, Jason Shigemori, lost his family home in the Altadena fires. If you’ve been to the Japangeles store in the last couple of years, he’s most likely the guy that helped you out.
The Altadena home shared by Jason and his parents was purchased by Jason’s grandfather 55 years ago. It’s the place his parents, my uncle and auntie, got married and started a family. It had a bonsai tree in the front. It’s the only place Jason has called home.
Early morning of the 8th, my uncle Danny stayed until the very end to save their house. He narrowly escaped after his house caught on fire. The next day, when he called some of his gardening business customers to notify them that he wouldn’t be able to work at their homes, he learned that many of them had lost their homes, too. It was truly heartbreaking to realize just how many homes were lost in the Altadena area.
We are asking for your support as they rebuild everything they had from the ground up. The funds raised will go directly towards their temporary housing, essentials and keep them afloat as my uncle rebuilds his gardening business.
We know there are many people who have lost so much here in Los Angeles, and our hearts break with every story we hear. We appreciate you taking the time to read this and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help, big or small, you can give to Jason and his family.
