To our friends, family, and kind-hearted community,
We are reaching out to ask for support for my Aunt Janet as she faces an unforeseen and critical health crisis.
For most of her life, Janet suffered from what was believed to be Colitis. However, following emergency surgery a few weeks ago, doctors determined the correct diagnosis is Crohn’s Disease. This often-misdiagnosed condition causes severe inflammation that can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract. Regrettably, the lack of proper treatment for Crohn’s over the years led directly to her current critical state.
The Medical Crisis
The crisis began on October 1st, when Janet was rushed to the emergency room due to complications from an umbilical hernia. This required emergency surgery to remove a significant portion of her colon, resulting in a permanent colostomy.
The recovery has been incredibly challenging due to immediate and severe complications. The primary concern is her stoma (the opening on the abdomen), which has begun to retract or "invert." This prevents the colostomy bag from securing properly, creating dangerous infection risks for her surgical incision and causing severe skin irritation. This serious issue requires intensive, ongoing medical care and attention.
A Plea for Financial Relief
Because of these unexpected medical conditions, Janet is facing a prolonged leave from work and significant financial strain. She deserves to focus solely on healing and adjusting to her "new normal," not worrying about crushing medical debt.
Any monetary donation, no matter the size, will provide immediate relief and long-term stability. These funds will cover the high costs that continue even with insurance—including deductibles, co-pays, and the staggering recurring monthly expense of specialized colostomy bags and medical supplies she will need for the rest of her life. Additionally, this support will help cover essential living expenses due to her ongoing loss of wages.
If you or anyone you know has extra, unused ostomy supplies that could be donated, this would be an immense help in reducing her constant financial burden. Colostomy bags needed must be 2 ½ inches around to work.
Janet has an amazing support system, and she is incredibly grateful for her sisters Sharon and LeAnne for taking turns staying with her and getting her to Dr. appointments, her boys Scott and Wes for being by her side and helping take care of her dog Duchess while she was in the hospital, and the wonderful nurses caring for her at home. Now, she needs the support of her wider community to navigate this challenging time without losing her financial footing.
Thank you sincerely for reading Janet's story. Any kindness or assistance you can provide is deeply appreciated and makes a real difference in her recovery.
