Last night, Jamar lost everything in a fire. His apartment and others caught on fire from a remote control car battery that exploded. Luckily, everyone was able to get out and no lives were lost! He is currently starting the process of getting a new ID so he can go get all of his work badges and security clearance paperwork redone. He has nothing. No shoes, work uniforms, ID, phone, bedding, underwear, nothing. Anything is truly appreciated!

EVERETT, WA – On Wednesday night, July 17th, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Everett Fire was dispatched to a medical incident at Northern View Apartments—717 Hawthorne St. The initial dispatch was for a subject who was feeling dizzy after being exposed to a reported failure of a battery in a remote-control car. When firefighters on Aid 2 arrived, they discovered a working apartment fire in a second-floor apartment. The incident was quickly upgraded to request more resources.
As Aid 2 worked to notify and evacuate residents in neighboring apartments, they entered a top-story apartment and located a resident in a bedroom. Firefighters rescued the male from the apartment, which was engulfed in smoke and beginning to catch fire from the apartment below. Once outside, the resident was able to walk on his own to be evaluated by paramedics. He was treated and released at the scene.
Within 13 minutes of arriving on scene, the incident commander upgraded the alarm to a second alarm. Firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the fire while others searched adjoining apartments to ensure all residents were safely evacuated. One dog was found in the fire unit unharmed and reunited with its owner. It took approximately an hour to extinguish the fire fully.
Two apartments were impacted by the fire, resulting in fire, smoke, and water damage, while the bottom-floor apartment received water damage. Additionally, two other apartments were under evaluation for smoke and water damage at the time of the news release.
The American Red Cross Northwest Region responded to assist the displaced residents, including seven adults, one child, and two dogs.
Snohomish County PUD and Puget Sound Energy responded to secure the utilities, and Everett Police Department assisted with traffic control. Marysville Fire District, Tulalip Bay Fire Department, Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue, and North County Fire/EMS provided mutual aid.
One fire engine will remain on scene throughout the night to address hotspots.
The incident is under investigation by the Everett Fire Marshal’s Office.
