This may come as a surprise for some of you, but my youngest sister Jackie has been battling cancer for three years now. She feels so grateful that in spite of 4 surgeries and 4 different chemo protocols, she has overall been feeling good and full of energy and gratitude. She remains active volunteering at her church, her town Prevention Council and at Ceci and Ailyn‘s school and working at their dance studio. She is grateful for Raul and her kids who have gone through a lot with her!
One thing that Jackie has learned through this journey is that these different chemo regimens work for a while and then the cancer metastasizes in a new place. For example, one regimen worked great for keeping cancer from metastasizing in her torso, but then did metastasize to her brain. The surgery to remove it from her brain was very successful with no side effects…..great outcome!!! What has been placed upon her heart is the need to support her body and immunity through integrative therapies. Unfortunately, at this time in our society, and in the medical field, these necessary treatments are not covered by insurance. These therapies do have studies to support their effectiveness. She will continue with the chemo regimen, but these therapies are meant to support her body as she undergoes chemo.
Jackie is so grateful for all of those who have supported her family with meals and gift cards and monetary support over these past three years. The out of state surgeries and Jackie’s loss of work have caused Jackie and Raul to max out their credit cards. They have refinanced their mortgage to help make ends meet.
Jackie has been very reluctant to allow us to set up this fund, but she wants to continue fighting with all that she has in order to be here for her children and her future grandchildren. These alternative integrative therapies offer even greater hope. While we all know that Jackie’s true hope is in the Lord, she feels that it is very important to include these therapies in her treatments and in her fight to defeat cancer. She always says and tries to live, “Thy will be done”. She feels that these therapies have been made available to her but needs support in affording them.
Please consider making a donation to Jackie and her family. If you prefer to support Jackie in other ways, gift cards for grocery stores or gas are also appreciated.
Above all, as Jackie says, she is “greedy for prayers”. Please pray for Jackie’s complete healing, for her husband Raul, and children, Gabriela, Mateo, Marilyn, Ailyn and Ceci and that she and her family always live by “Thy will be done”
