Hi, my name is Briana Bartenieff and I am the writer and director of the original musical Issue #9. The play was originally my senior project at SUNY Purchase. I had collaborated with J. H. Greenwell, a classmate of mine for the composing of the music in the play, and Issue #9 was born! In April of 2023 I had a wonderful, and talented cast do a staged reading of it at the school and it was an incredible success. Now Issue #9 is moving to the professional theater world by getting produced by Theater for the New City in April 2024! I am asking for your help to fund the possibility of this important Theatrical experience that is once in a lifetime.
Issue #9 is a musical with ten original songs, and a all female cast. It follows the story of Natatlie and her daughter Lexi. After meeting the wrong friends in her new neighborhood, Lexi develops an addiction to Teen Magazines. Trying to fit into the toxic lifestyle she develops an eating disorder, and depression. Her Mother is left to pick up the pieces she ignored, and she tries to deliver Justice to help her broken heart that developed from her now, broken family.
Issue #9 is a story that needs to be shared with audiences because of it's discussion of mental health and how mental health effects others. To show a story of where eating disorders are spoken about so casually in the female experience, and why that is a danger to people of all ages.
The funding will go to Marketing of the Project, designer and material fees for the set and costumes. The Marketing would include the hiring of a press agent, marketing on social media, and paid ADs on Theater websites, and printed press. To build the storytelling of the play, the set needs to look up to high standards, as well as our costumes.
The themes of Issue #9 happen everyday, but it is up to you to help spread the word of its real life impact. Any donation made will have their name announced in every program under the "Issue #9 Angels". Thank you for your time and consideration!
