My name is Jacob, and I’m reaching out to share my story and ask for support. I was born and raised in Arizona, and I’ve always had a deep love for animals. For years, I was actively involved in fostering dogs and hands-on work with animal rescues, a passion that brought me immense joy and purpose. However, my life changed dramatically when I was 24, leaving me paralyzed after being shot. Since then, I’ve relied on a wheelchair, but the one provided by insurance no longer meets my needs.

I face a unique challenge due to a missing bone on my right buttock, causing me to sit about 3 inches lower on that side. This imbalance severely affects my posture, and the current wheelchair is too large, forcing me to lean awkwardly with the side of my ribs pressing against the armrest. This causes me great discomfort and pain and has made it uncomfortable for me to be out of bed for longer than a couple hours each day I’ve lost touch with friends, can no longer contribute to animal rescue efforts, and have missed out on precious moments with my family. Being unable to work has only added to the struggle.

I’m raising funds to purchase a customized wheelchair and seat. This specialized equipment, priced at $3,000 for the seat alone and 9 to 10k for the chair. I did get insurance to cover $3,000 of it, but I need to pay the remaining balance. The seat and chair include advanced pressure management and customizable dimensions to accommodate my needs. These adjustments, such as a tailored base cushion structure and the option for width and depth increments, could finally allow me to sit comfortably and regain some independence. With your help, I hope to get out of bed, reconnect with my community, support animal rescues again, and create new memories with my loved ones, and get back to work.
