Hi, my name is Ian Heffernan and on Memorial Day Weekend of 2024, I was diagnosed with Miller Fisher Syndrome which lead me to be almost completely paralyzed from the neck down. Anyone who knows me will know that I had been an extremely avid outdoorsman with a passion for snow sports and had been out climbing mountains and sliding down them. One morning, while I was camping with my dog in the wilderness and splitboarding, I woke up and could not stand up. I had no idea what was wrong with me and it took multiple hospital visits and a near brush with death before they landed upon my diagnosis. It is, luckily, temporary and I am on my way to making a full recovery, however, in the months in the hospital and multiple months recovering and unable to work, I have acquired huge amounts of medical bills, personal debt due to maxed out credit cards with bills I cannot afford to pay, fallen back on my car payments, have had all items(and my cat) removed from my apartment without my consent by my landlord, and acquired new bills for storage of my car and whatever personal items I have left scattered around Tahoe and have been separated from my dog. While my goal I have set will hardly touch the amount of debt I am in from this awful circumstance, it will at least be a bit of padding to help cover the rest of the costs for most of the remainder of my recovery and help catch up a bit so I don't end up with absolutely nothing when I do fully recover. Anything anyone can contribute would be greatly appreciated from the bottom of my heart. These funds will be used to cover additional medical costs, catch up on my bills that are currently in arrears so I don't completely ruin my credit and can acquire housing once I am recovered, help put food on the table, cover costs of travel to and from my many medical appointments and help cover the costs of reuniting me with my beloved dog, Mr. Bojangles(she's really a girl), which has proven to be incredibly difficult and costly due to the strict regulations surrounding pet travel to the islands of Hawaii where I have been blessed to be able to recover on.
