Please donate towards Ian Lashley’s Medical Expenses
In 2019, Ian was a healthy young man who had just graduated from college and was about to start his career. But over the following year, he became unwell. Ian developed signs of anemia, his weight dropped significantly, and eventually, he developed jaundice. In September 2020, upon investigations, he was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease that was destroying his liver. He travelled to Lahey Clinic in Boston, USA for further investigation and possible treatment. There, he was told that there was no treatment for the disease. Ian was given medications to help with his symptoms and he returned home. He was regularly monitored by his local physician but also required routine visits to his liver specialists at Lahey. By August 2022, Ian’s health had further declined, and his liver was significantly compromised. He was advised by his specialists that he would require a liver transplant and was placed on the Liver Transplant list. Ian returned home with steadily declining health, to await the call from Lahey that would save his life. In December 2022, Ian’s job was made redundant, which placed a significant financial burden on Ian and his family, as he continued to require specialist care. He applied to several major insurers, but all denied coverage. Ian’s only option was basic medical insurance (H.I.P) which would only cover 60% of his overseas medical expenses.
In August 2023, Ian returned to Lahey for a routine check-up. Just two days before leaving Boston to return home, Ian received the long-awaited call from Lahey Clinic stating, “Ian, we have a donor”. God had answered our prayers! On August 18, 2023, Ian received the gift of life, with the transplant of a healthy liver. The following days after Ian’s liver transplant, were challenging as can be expected, but Ian rarely complained. After discharge from the hospital, Ian had to remain in Boston for frequent follow-up appointments with his surgical team. After nearly two months, he was finally fit to return home. Ian’s recovery has been steady and without complications. However, he continues to have follow-up appointments at Lahey every three months.
While Ian’s family is so grateful for the prayers and support from family and friends, his medical expenses have escalated. Ian’s health insurance covered 60% of his hospital expenses, and he is responsible for the remaining 40%. Thankfully, LCCA has paid his portion upfront, but now Ian needs to refund LCCA.
Ian’s family are extremely grateful for your donations to help towards his medical expenses. Whatever you give will go towards refunding LCCA. We thank you in advance for your generosity. May your gifts return to you ten-fold.
