Horror in Seconds Film Festival: Round 2

Donation protected

Hi everyone! This is Doaa, Founder and Director of Horror in Seconds, Vancouver's first BIPOC Horror Film Festival. I'm also known as "Jordan Peele's future competition" :D

I'm starting this GoFundMe because I need your support to run our second year.

Horror in Seconds launched in November 2023 and was described as "Vancouver's most unique Film Festival" by the Georgia Straight.
The Festival could not have happened without your support because it relied 100% on donations and sponsorships to take place. This is the power of community and I am forever grateful for it! <3

What is this Festival all about?

Horror in Seconds' mission is focused on making the filmmaking process accessible to emerging BIPOC artists. The idea is so cool: record a 60 second (or less) horror movie on your smartphone, with no dialogue and hit the submit button. Think of it as an anthology of "TikTok" movies.

As a radical visionary, I was like why limit this vision to just movies when I can expand it to include more local talents?

The inaugural year was epic. we hosted the opening night at Fox Cabaret with programming that included film screenings, Horror-lesque and live performances.

The closing night was a Horror Poetry Night hosted at Massy Arts Society, highlighting amazing local poets and catered horror-themed charcuterie by Indigenous business: Owl Aboard.

For this year, 2024 I would love to start booking venue earlier as I have no team members and it's just me running this whole thing. I would also love to include panel talks with the filmmakers and maybe a couple of guests to host.

The funds will cover the following:

-Venue rentals, event insurance, security and liquor licenses
-Merchandise
-Festival programming fees (artists' workshops, talks, presenters, DJs)
-Signage and tickets
-Website design
-Opening and closing events with catering
-Production
-Graphic design, printing for promotional materials, advertising and public relations.
-Videography and photography
-Equipment

Thank you so much in advance and looking forward to seeing you at the Festival!

If you Have the capacity to, please donate and/or share this GFM in your networks <3
