It’s impossible to fully express the depth of sorrow that accompanies the loss of someone as extraordinary as Summer Hunter. Her passing leaves a profound void, not just because she was a remarkable teacher, but because she was a woman whose devotion to her family, her community, and her students knew no bounds. As we navigate through this grief, we reflect on the incredible impact Summer had on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. This tribute is not only for a dedicated educator but for a loving wife to her husband Kevin, a devoted mother to her daughter Alyssa, and a steadfast volunteer whose contributions will be remembered by so many.

Summer, affectionately known as Ms. Hunter (or mama Hunter), was more than just a teacher. She was a symbol of strength, compassion, and selflessness. From the moment you met her, her warmth and unwavering belief in others’ potential were evident. She was a constant source of encouragement and support for her students, creating a safe and nurturing space where they could thrive. Outside of her professional role, she was deeply committed to her family, especially to her daughter Alyssa, whom she loved fiercely. Summer’s bond with Alyssa was truly special, and her devotion as a mother was matched only by her dedication to making the world a better place. Kevin, her loving husband, stood by her side through all of her endeavors, and together, they built a life rooted in love, service, and mutual respect.

Summer's family and multitude of friends would like to express their sincere thanks the kind words and prayers received. In lieu of flowers, they ask that individuals donate to the organizations that were closest to Summer's heart, with one of those organizations being Team Voyage (a non-profit group exclusive to Page High School that works to increase academic investment and social capital in African American young men).

Summer had been an integral part of Team Voyage since its inception in 2016. Since that time, the organization (under Summer's care and leadership) has helped provide mentorship and opportunities which has helped current members, as well as many alumni toward future successes. The family intends for a scholarship to be created in Summer's honor and would love for her amazing work and legacy to continue through both Team Voyage and Black Suit Initiative.

As we mourn the loss of Summer, we also celebrate her incredible life—one filled with love, passion, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her presence may no longer be with us, but the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the legacy she leaves behind will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Rest in peace, Summer. You will be deeply missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to know you. Your legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire us all. You were a true light in this world, and we are grateful for every moment we shared with you.
