Most people know of Hemi's story, but if you don't here's a fresh update. He's 19 years old, a graduate of Westville High School and currently on disability. He's always been active and locally known at skate parks for his riding skills, along with scooter and skateboarding. If the weather isn't nice enough for that, you'll find him in his dad's shop working on his truck or helping his dad with anything.
Early this year, we found out that what we thought was a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder is actually Ewing's sarcoma. Ewing sarcoma is a rare bone cancer that, for him, started in right shoulder and became a tumor. Ewing sarcoma affects about 200-250 people a year. Hemi has gone through 14 rounds of chemotherapy and had 3 surgeries so far, including limb salvage surgery. Limb salvage involved cutting out the cancerous bones affected and replacing what they could with metal.
With all his treatments, Justin (dad) and I (mom) have had to miss a lot of work. We will continue missing days at work to get him to all of his tests, scans and treatments. The bills have been steadily coming in. Christmas is coming. Things are beyond tight.
As we get through this life changing event, I will continually post updates.
As you can imagine, this has been intense so far, and asking for help is very hard.
Please consider a donation to help us get through this without the stress of financial hardship. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
