Help Young Artists Revolutionize Greek Myths

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Zazi the Artist!

I’m a queer, latine theatremaker from Southern California, and my goal is to redefine and revolutionize the way theatremakers adapt ancient Greek myths for the modern stage. In order to do that, I need some very generous and kind strangers on the internet to donate to our cause.

Now, I’m sure you’re asking: Why in the world should I give you money?

That, my new friend, is a wonderful question! My show, They Weave with String that Suffocates, is my experimental first-go at adapting ancient Greek myths through a new framework, and I need funding in order to help get it off its feet. The funds raised here will help with:

  • Paying actors, creative team members, and technicians for their hard work
  • Paying venue and/or festival fees for future performances
  • Funding props, costumes, and set pieces

By donating to our project, you’re not only funding one-of-a-kind art, but also providing job opportunities for up-and-coming artists as well as propelling our careers forward. Without the generous help of people like you, young artists like myself can only get so far.

But you won’t just get personal satisfaction and karmic bonus points by donating, you’ll also win prizes! Here are the reward benchmarks:

  • Any Donation Amount = A Place in the Program as a Sponsor
  • £5 = Digital “Thank You” Note
  • £10 = Your Life String (The shape your life makes as woven by the three Fates)
  • £20 = A Short Prophecy from the Fates
  • £40 = A Comp Ticket to a Future Performance

You earn every incentive below the amount you donate as well (so if you donate £20 you get both the “Thank You” Note and the Life String; £30 gets you the “Thank You” Note, Life String, and Short Prophecy; so on and so forth).

I bet you’re asking now: But what am I donating to? What’s this show even about, Zazi?! I need to know what it’s about!

Great question, albeit a little aggressive in tone, but I’ll answer nonetheless.

They Weave with String that Suffocates is a re-imagining of the complex and interwoven lives of six women from ancient Greek mythology told through the framework of the three Fates.

Here’s a more detailed summary:

Clotho. Lachesis. Atropos. The Spinner. The Allotter. The End.
The Fates observe, the Fates judge, but the Fates never act. Until now. When six blue strings inexplicably appear amongst their sea of red thread, the Fates must weave a new story if they ever want to find an answer.

Klytemnestra. Helen. Kassandra. Iphigenia. Khrysothemis. Elektra.
Six women connected through family, war, and a curse. Six women bound by the strings of Fate and wrenched by the whims of man. Six women faced with one question: Is my life my own?

Amidst betrayal, murder, and revenge, these women must confront their destinies and make their final stand. As the Fates seek to understand the strange appearance of the blue strings, the women struggle against their shackles of grief, sorrow, and rage. Will the very string that connects them all strangle them in the end?

They Weave with String that Suffocates literally binds the Fates together; the three performers are connected at all times by long pieces of physical string. By redefining the paradigm of mythical tragedies in theatre, the autonomy and rage of women from the ancient world to today explodes on stage in this surreal and physically inventive work.

The show explores the relationship between autonomy, determinism, and female rage, themes which I'm sure most people in this current world can connect with. It forces the audience to reflect on their relationship with themselves as well as with the women around them, and ultimately empowers them to take their fate into their own hands.

I know times are tough, and money is very sparse, but art is how we, as humans, stay connected, stay joyous, and stay alive during hard times like these ones. Please consider donating to help a group of young artists connect to the world through our stories. No amount is too small, and every donation counts.

Thank you!
