Donate to help with Vet bills for Smokey

Hi, I am Brittany and I am fundraising for vet bills for my wonderful horse, Smokey. Smokey is my 13 year young horse who I have had the pleasure of owning since he was 5. He is my first horse and is my heart horse and we enjoy trail riding together, and he is simply the best and I care deeply for him. On May 1st Smokey got his annual shots and an IV injection of banamine to help prevent any adverse side effects to the vaccines. Later in the week he had swelling in the area and I continued to monitor closely under advisement of my local vet. Smokey was in good spirits, eating and drinking normally, bright eyed, still energetic on trails, and wasn’t bothered by touching the swollen area. Swelling went down but the area was still firm to the touch. This weekend he started to act more lethargic, ate less, and the area on his neck started slowly oozing. Since he was no longer acting like himself it was advised to bring him into the UW Vet Hospital in Madison. The vets at the UW said it was very good that I brought him in when I did. He is in the care of the wonderful vets and is fighting a bad bacterial infection of the tissues where the original banamine injection occurred and has a blood clot in his jugular. He is up against a lot, but the vets have seen horses recover from this and again, he’s in the best hands. Smokey will be at the UW Madison Vet hospital for at least a week for close monitoring and care including IV antibiotics and further testing. I was quoted $5000-8000 for their estimate of what it will take to help him recover enough to come home to my care. Todays visit for diagnosis and the emergency call was quoted at $1000-1200 (not sure if that’s included in the $5-8k updated estimate). While I absolutely plan to pay for his care at the hospital, I am asking for any help anyone is able to share if you are able and willing in order to help offset the cost. If you have had the pleasure of meeting Smokey, he is the silliest, sweetest, and a very loyal partner to me and he deserves every chance at a full recovery.
