Hi, we are Abby and Sophie, two vet students from the University of Liverpool and this summer we will be undertaking a clinical placement in Tanzania with a local vet (Elang'ata Agrovet Services) .
For many communities, access to basic veterinary care is limited and preventable diseases like Rabies and Distemper in dogs, and Tetanus in donkeys, threaten not only the lives of these animals but the safety and economic stability of the entire community.
The outreach clinics ran by this vet are critical, however the cost of vaccines, transport, accommodation and other medical supplies are a massive barrier in getting treatment to the animals that need it the most. Without regular vaccination, Rabies remains a constant threat to both animals and humans, and a sick donkey can mean a family loses their ability to bring clean water to their home.
Your donations will go directly towards:
- Life-saving vaccines: Purchasing Rabies and DHLPP (dogs), and Tetanus/Flu (donkeys).
- Mobile outreach: Fuel and maintenance for the off-road vehicles to reach remote locations, and accommodation for volunteers doing multi-day clinics.
- Education: Training local owners on wound care and basic animal husbandry.
The impact of your donation:
- £10 can vaccinate 5 dogs against Rabies, protecting a neighbourhood
- £25 provides 3 donkeys with the vaccinations and deworming treatments they need to stay healthy and working for a full year
- £100 funds the fuel and supplies to help the team reach remote locations
Every single donation will go a long way to helping protect these communities from devastating diseases.
Asante sana (Thank you very much) for all your help and kindness!
