Help with Sages Emergency Vet Bills
Donation protected
My name is Skylar Barkhouse and I have recently been struggling to cover the cost of my cat's emergency vet bills.
Over the past month, my 4.5 year old cat Sage has suffered from chronic constipation and megacolon. Sage has pooped 7 times in the last month.
We have visited the vet 6 times in the last month, receiving enemas, internal fluids, and oral at-home medications to encourage bowel movements. He is currently on 3 medications twice per day: two laxatives (Resoralax and Lactulose) and a medication to increase mobility in his gastrointestinal tract (Cisapride).
On Friday September 13th, Sage had full diagnostics (multiple x-rays and bloodwork) to search for the underlying cause of his poopy problems. On the x-rays, they found that Sage has an Osteophyte (a bone spur) on his right hip. Its unknown how he got it, but it's probable he has had it since birth or caused by the healing of an injury when he was a kitten, since he is so young and was a rescued from a local barn in Lunenburg County.
It is likely that the Osteophyte is causing so much pain when squatting that he has been refusing to poop. If this is the cause of his constipation, Sage will be on a monthly injectable pain medication (Solensia) for the rest of his life. This monthly medication costs 93.26$ per dose.
Additionally, his colon has stretched so much since his last x-ray (exactly 1 month prior), that he will suffer with megacolon permanently.
Sage recieved his first dose of Solensia on September 14th. This medication normally takes 3-4 days to kick in, and can sometimes take up to a month depending on the cat. I am hopeful that the medication will alleviate his pain and allow him to comfortably visit the litter box soon.

In total, as of September 15th, Sages vet bills have cost a total of 2479.64$.
Despite working two jobs—between paying student loans and the current cost of living—I am struggling to cover these unexpected costs. I am not normally a person to ask for help, but I am in a dire circumstance and am looking for your support—wether that be monetarily, through kind messages, sharing similar experiences, thinking positive thoughts, or sharing this post. I love my silly, happy, boy more than anything and I would walk to the end of the earth for him.
Any donations made to this Go Fund Me will directly go toward paying off the outstanding emergency vet bill costs on my credit card. I have attached the images of as many of the invoices as I can find, as well as a timeline of costs.
I am so grateful for all of the love and support and donations that I have recieved so far. I am espicially thankful for the amazing services that I have recieved from the Chester Basin Animal Hospital. Dr. Julia Case has gone over and above to accomodate sage on fully booked days, be patient with him on his cranky days, and created such a welcoming and loving atmosphere for myself and my boy. The vet techs, assistants, and administration all know sage and love him as their own.
If you know myself and my 'Mr Stinkbottom,' you know how much your support means. Thank you all so much, I am forever grateful ♥️
