UPDATE 07/27: Peaches has been home for 8 days now she’s just getting off of the pain killers and her appetite is improving with her new diet. Because she no longer has her spleen she is considered immunocompromised and needs a low starch, grain free diet, she will be susceptible to viruses and bacteria. Last Thursday we heard from her Dr that her biopsy results came back benign but further testing of her spleen would be done just incase on the rare chance they find something, but we never heard anything more than that and no news is good news so our little Peachy mama is 100% cancer free! She’s getting back to normal and will be on bed rest for another week when her stitches will be removed. She’s such a little fighter, this girl means so much more than a dog! This is my baby that I’ve nurtured for 10 years she’s my why for life continued prayers for her healing are so appreciated! Warms our hearts for all of the outpouring love from friends and family in rooting for our baby!
Hello, my name is Kayla. Peaches is a 10 year old chug, chihuahua/pug that I’ve been fortunate enough to have since she was just 6 weeks old. At 1am on 07/17 my little girl Peaches was rushed to the Loomis Basin vet hospital with extreme abdominal bloating, pale white gums, and lethargy I don’t think driving there that my husband and I expected the news we were about to receive. Peaches had a very large mass that was attached to her spleen and had burst causing internal bleeding into her abdominal cavity. Peaches was in a lot of pain and of course the Dr. recommended we put her down. That was option one.. option two was palliative care to take her home on pain meds and let her bleed out over the next few hours to days.. option three was to run testing to see if she was a candidate for surgery and because they thought the mass that burst was hemangiosarcoma and that it was a 75% chance it would be cancer we needed to check her heart, lungs, and liver to see if anything had metastasized. We made the call to run all of the tests and go from there, Peaches came back clean nothing had metastesized and she had no fluid around her heart she was cleared for surgery if that was the route we wanted. At 1:30pm 07/17 peaches was taken in for surgery her spleen and the blood pooled in her abdominal cavity were removed and her spleen has been sent out for testing to see if it’s cancerous. That part is uncertain, but everything up until now has been going the way it needed to. 36 hours ago I was told to put her down, now she’s recovering from surgery, eating, going for little potty walks with some pip in her step! She’s our strong resilient girl who got the second chance at life! Although we regret none of our decisions this has definitely been a very financially stressful situation. All of her treatment is ranged from 11,500-15,000. We are asking anybody no matter how much to please help Peaches! Anything helps! Please pray for our little warrior!
