Hi, our names are Beth & Rob Knutson, and Derek Wettstein is our son-in-law, married to our daughter Amy. Yesterday Derek caught on fire while trying to start a power washer on May 21, 2022. The gas backfired from the carburetor, and part of Derek went up in flames. Luckily, Derek is a volunteer firefighter and knew what to do to prevent further injuries than he had already sustained. Derek was lucky that he did not endure any severe burns on his face and that he is breathing, walking, talking, and can hear and see. In that respect, he is fortunate.

He has a long road ahead of recovery and will not be able to work. He will be making many trips to the hospital and the burn unit in Minneapolis. At this time, we are not sure the duration of his healing, but we all know burns heal at their own pace. He has 2nd and 3rd-degree burns.
