Glen Jacobsen's medical journey started on 7/18/22 when he was diagnosed with a staph infection in his blood that had turned into Endocarditis. The Endocarditis had gotten so bad that the infection began attacking Glen's aortic valve. After several tests and lab work, it was determined that the Trauma unit at St. Anthony's Central in Lakewood would be the best location for the next steps in Glen's care. After being transferred to Central, Glen and his family were presented with the next steps. Due to the severity of the infection and the damage that had already been done to the aortic valve, Glen would need open-heart surgery and a mechanical valve installed. On 7/20/22, Glen underwent successful aortic valve replacement surgery. Glen would spend the next week in the ICU recovering. Glen was able to come home on 7/26/22, but this was short-lived as Glen developed shortness of breath and was admitted to the St. Anthony's - North ER on 7/29/22. Here it was determined that Glen had developed a complication from the original surgery called Pericardial effusion which is fluid build-up around the heart. After several unsuccessful attempts to drain the fluid, it was determined due to the severity of the situation that Glen would need to be transferred via a Flight for Life helicopter back to St. Anthony's Central to have a specialist perform the operation. The surgery was a success, and Glen would spend the next five days in the ICU recovering. Glen is now back home and looking forward to feeling normal and, hopefully no more medical setbacks. Glen and his family have been through a lot of mental, physical and financial stress due to this journey. Glen and his family are very private but understand that many family and friends would like to assist. Any funds received are to be used for medical costs and Glen's continued care and recovery.
God Bless and Thank You
