Donate to Help With Funeral Expenses for Malek

Hey y'all, it's Khari here and I just wanted to reach out on behalf of my cousin, Malek Morley. Unfortunately, our family lost this young, intelligent soul way too soon this past week. We pray that his spirit is at peace with his father, Michael, and our matriarch, Betty Jean. We wanted to reach out to you all though because we need as many hands on deck in a time of need like this, but also because Malek's passing was totally preventable. He was seeking treatment to assist with substance use last week, only to be denied by the medical facility he sought out. Less than 24 hours later, he suffered an overdose and was believed to have passed on arrival. But once he was finally brought in by paramedics, he was briefly revived, and the first words he shared were "I'm just looking for help, someone please help me." It is never easy losing a loved one but especially knowing this loved one had several cries out for help. And I'm not trying to make this a race issue, but historically in this country, there have been discrepancies in the treatment (and mistreatment) of people of color when it comes to health and medical services. So this situation just adds to that unfortunate fact about our country's history.

All we are asking here is to help a family struggling in a time of grief. It hurts my heart that I even have to write a message like this about someone I grew up with. But it hurts even more knowing that Malek did not intend to be leaving this realm in this manner. Again, we are looking for any help at this time. No donation is too small, it all adds up in the end. Above all though, please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers at time, and please respect our privacy as we mourn the loss of Malek.
