Donate to help with Doug Phillips recovery

My name is Amy Holmes and I'd greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to read my daddy Doug Phillips story. I've never done anything like this before, so please bear with me. If you know my daddy personally or in passing, across the board, it's very well known that he is the epitome of a hardworking blue-collar man who will give the shirt off his back for anyone. He never asks people for help but is always the first person they call when they need a helping hand, whether it be borrowing a piece of equipment or working on a project they can't quite figure out. He loves helping others and never asks for anything in return, and if you try to pay him, he will refuse because he just wants to help.

There isn't a man out there who could outwork this man; over the years, he has had multiple setbacks with his health, from amputations from his foot due to diabetic ulcers. Unless you knew him personally, you would have never known he was walking and still working with half of his right foot missing. I've watched this man finish a job with an ulcer on his foot and take himself to the doctor for treatment many times because he wanted to make sure his family had everything they needed, or he told them, 'I'd finish the job, so I did.' He's the most honest man, and if he tells you he's going to do something, it gets done no matter how tired he is.

Back in April of 2024, he had a large ulcer on his right foot that caused him to become a below-the-knee amputee, which was a very difficult recovery for him. He was determined to get fitted with a prosthetic leg to get back to driving his tri-axle; he was fitted with his first prosthetic in June, and his mobility was still a work in progress, but he could have some independence back. He was determined to get back on his feet, and after lots of hard work, he did just that. The doctors told him he would probably have to walk with a cane, but daddy proved them wrong.

His right leg was healed, and he was cleared to start working; but in November, he had another setback. His right leg had begun to form an abscess, and he had to go back to surgery and remove 1 1/2 inches from the leg and restart the process again. But he was in great spirits, constantly talking about getting healed so he could go back to work and start running behind his grandkids again with his new 'bionic leg,' as he calls it.

But unfortunately, his recovery from surgery became more complicated this time around; he was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma and had to begin undergoing chemotherapy treatments. He has been going to appointment after appointment to be refitted with his new prosthetic all while doing chemotherapy. The chemo treatments have been going well, and his lymph nodes have shrunk along with the mass on his left arm, so they can hopefully remove the mass on his arm soon.

But in early March, after complaining about severe back pain, he was sent to the ER for more bloodwork. They found he was septic with staph in his bloodstream with fluid on his lung, and he had to be hospitalized.

The medical bills keep coming, and there will be more coming because he has a long road ahead of him. Even with insurance, unfortunately, it just isn't enough.

So if anyone is able to donate, it would be greatly appreciated, and if you can't donate, kind words and prayers are very, very appreciated.

I want more than anything for him to beat cancer and be around for years to come. He's spent his whole life working for everything he's ever gotten and has never hesitated to help me or anyone else when they are struggling. He's such a genuinely kind man and doesn't like to make a fuss about his health or struggles to anyone. But I know it's just his way of protecting the people he loves; he would rather everyone be blissfully unaware than worry about him because that's his job to worry, not ours. But unfortunately for him, I inherited his stubborn streak, and he needs all the prayers and good vibes he can get.
