Saturday January 3rd Kevin Williamson was watching hockey with a few friends from his tight-nit fantasy hockey league , having a laugh about the struggles of everyone’s fantasy teams; something that we have done countless times.
A night that started as many others have soon turned into tragedy shortly after as Kevin and his father Keith's home in Saanichton was fully engulfed in flames and was lost almost instantly.
Kevin's father Keith Williamson tragically lost his life in the fire and in the process of trying to rescue his father Kevin received severe damage to his lungs and hands and was transported to the Royal Jubilee where he remains in critical condition.
Life is finite and tomorrow is never promised and in this situation the next hour wasn't promised. In tragic moments like this we must do our best to find love and beauty. Within 12 hours of the tragedy that love and beauty was realized when our group chat affectionately known as the "Wrenchers" instantly started working on a way to help our friend and brother.
To know Kevin is to love Kevin. He is unapologetically himself and the most genuine person you will come across. This stems from the phenomenal parents he has in Keith and Linda. This will be a long road back for Kevin physically and emotionally as well as everyone involved but it's a road we're going to make as smooth as possible.
Thank you to the fire departments that responded (Central Saanich, North Saanich, Sidney) as well as the paramedics and police. Thank you to the staff at Royal Jubilee who continue to care for Kevin and his family.
The Williamson family has asked for privacy at this time, they have given their blessing to set up a gofundme to help Kevin and their family as they navigate their way through this tragedy. All donations are greatly appreciated as we all do our best to provide our support.
