Donate to help while Zion battles kidney disease

Hi, my name is Claire and I am raising funds to help my friend, Nicole, and my son’s little buddy, Zion.

Zion was diagnosed with kidney failure last year, when he was only 2 years old. After a number of tests and scary illnesses, he was diagnosed with FSGS, a rare kidney disease that causes scarring in the filters of the kidneys. One of the treatment options is steroids, but Zion was later diagnosed with genetic steroid resistance. Other treatments have been similarly ineffective.

Zion is a strong little guy, but he has been in and out of the hospital for over a year, and lately in more than he has been out. The doctors are trying one more treatment option, but if it does not work, Zion will be on dialysis waiting for a kidney transplant.

Zion’s mom is a single mom who is, even through all of this, trying to attend college so she and Zion can have a better life. Zion is severely immunocompromised due both his condition and the medications he takes, and can no longer attend daycare. Nicole is trying to make ends meet and maintain a decent quality of life for herself and Zion in one of the most expensive cities in the world, but she is unable to work due to the severity of Zion’s illness and his immunocompromised status. She needs childcare and decent, healthy food, cab fare, and money for all other expenses that arise while caring for an extremely ill child who is in and out of the hospital.
