My homeland’s crisis is neglected and overlooked. Millions have been displaced and face hunger, malnutrition, and gender-based violence. Sexual violence is being used as a weapon of war. Two-thirds of the population lack access to health care, two-thirds of schools are not functioning, and children are being forced to join militias. Since the war began, my parents have lost their jobs and source of income. My father, my siblings, and I were repeatedly detained and tortured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) because of our tribal affiliation with the Darfur region and the Fur tribe—a group with a history of conflict with the Arab tribes that make up the RSF. Because my brother had previously served in the Sudanese army, we were viewed with suspicion and tortured without formal charges. We were eventually forced to flee Khartoum and seek refuge in a safer city, where we stayed in displacement centers. Even there, we found no peace; army intelligence pursued and detained us multiple times, eventually leading us to leave Sudan. Today, my family lives in Egypt, registered as refugees and facing dire conditions as we struggle with the hardships of daily life. My parents are elderly and ill, and my siblings are also sick; I am the only one there to support and care for them. I arrived here after a long, perilous journey during which I nearly lost my life. My only aim now is to support my family and provide medical care and medication for my parents, who suffer from hypertension, and my eldest brother, who has a spinal disc condition. I hope to one day return to a normal life, resume my studies, and receive treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

After enduring these atrocities, I have had to take low-paying, temporary jobs to feed my family. I had to drop out of engineering school because I could no longer afford tuition, and my sister had to do the same.

We need to raise money to:

• Complete our engineering studies (for both my sister and me)

• Secure housing and medical supplies for my family

• Establish a stable source of income for us
