Donate to help Walk of the Dandelion

Hello everyone,

Help Luke Brown Dance take Walk of the Dandelion around the country. Donate to help us to continue our hopeful steps forward walks with our larger than life puppets. With your help I can continue to offer our 5 ways to wellbeing dandelion making mindfulness workshops to communities. With your support we can continue to spread messages of positivity and resilience!

New to this project? Let me introduce myself. My name is Luke, and I am the Artistic Director of Luke Brown Dance. Walk of the Dandelion is an uplifting community engagement project designed to spread joy, connect families, friends and communities in outdoor and indoor settings. At the heart of the project is our puppet Daniel and new for 2022 the addition of a puppet dog. As an artist living with mental health struggles & trauma recovery, I am using my experience to create honest work that advocates discussion around resilience, moving it from taboo to normal. A big element for me is moving away from silencing struggles and advocating, through arts activities, the framework for positive recovery.

Last year Daniel was created and we piloted the project visiting numerous settings and communities around the U.K. Last year I was able to talk about strategies on how to manage good mental health through, puppetry, contemporary dance and our FREE bespoke 5 ways to wellbeing dandelion making workshops (can you spot them in the photos). I worked with a range of communities from families with young children, residents at care homes, mental health services users, primary school and college pupils and hospital patients and staff who all engaged meaningfully with the project, not to mention passers by who stopped to talk to us on our travels.

Walk of the Dandelion - taking hopeful steps forward, supports all people to be mindful, to be courageous, talk, connect & focus on their own resilience.

“I have had setbacks this year but there are days...like today, where I relax and breath... which give me so much hope for the future.” Parks in Mind participant

Your donations will:

- allow us time and resourcing to continue to offer our 5 ways to wellbeing workshops for free for, among others: families; primary children, including those with special educational needs; adults with mental health needs; hospital patients, families and staff; adults with learning disabilities.

- help fund the collaboration with puppet maker Naomi Oppenheim to design and build Daniel's new puppet dog friend, to enable children to actively and creatively engage with a puppet on their level.

- help us create parades of participants carrying their own symbols of resilience- dandelion seed heads- to join the Walk of the Dandelion performance and bring messages of hope and resilience to communities.

Words so far - "beautiful". "powerful". "extremely moving". "uplifting". "important"

Please support this project in any way that you can. Your kindness, love, generosity towards this project will help raise funds to bring Daniel, his dog and our hopeful steps forward walks to life.

Walk of the Dandelion is supported by Arts Reach and will include the future submission of an Arts Council England application in the hope to bring the entire production to fruition summer 2022 and beyond.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.

Warmest of wishes,
Luke Brown
