Dear Family and Friends, I am reaching out to you today with hopes of raising money to help Vanda with medical expenses due to her recent diagnosis of CNS Lupis.
Vanda is a 42-year-old single mom who has had enough hardships in life already. Over the summer, Vanda became hospitalized and has now been diagnosed with CNS Lupus. Vanda remains in a hospital and her condition has rapidly declined with no hopes of being cured. Her condition has caused severe inflammation throughout her whole body, and more specifically her brain causing pain and mental decline to a point where she is no longer able to care for herself and now requires 24/7 care and supervision.
Since her diagnosis, Vanda returned home, and it quickly became clear that she could not be left unsupervised. Vanda started wandering the halls and opening Neighbour’s front doors and was found wandering lost outdoors in her Pajama’s. Police had to be called several times, and it was then agreed that for her safety she return to a hospital until arrangements for a Long-Term Care home is made available. Because Vanda’s return to a hospital is considered volunteer, OHIP will not cover her hospital daily rate.
Alexia, Vanda’s 21-year-old daughter, and Almor, Vanda’s 66-year-old father, have been left with no choice or any other options but to keep Vanda safe in a hospital.
With an already heavy hand of being diagnosed with CNS Lupus, Vanda does not have a Living Will or any Power of Attorney assigned to her, therefore, Vanda has been assigned a Public Trustee to manage Vanda’s affairs.
This means that in order to gain legal custody over Vanda, Alexia and her Grandfather Almor, will first need to have Vanda assessed with a capacity assessment to determine that she is no longer able to care for or provide for herself. The cost for the assessment is $1200. Once the assessment legally determines Vanda to be incapacitated, Alexia and Almor will have to apply to become a primary care giver for Vanda with the Public Trustee. Once approved they will then be able to start the legal process to obtain Legal Power of Attorney over Vanda. This process will also cost Alexia and Almor money in legal fees which they are not able to cover on their own at this time.
This enduring journey has been mentally and financially challenging for Vanda, Alexia and Almor. Alexia is in school full time and barely making ends meet. Almor at 66 years of age has found that he can no longer retire and is also working extra-long hours to help the financial burden that has been placed on Vanda and Alexia. With that being said, we appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer as Vanda continues to battle CNS Lupus for the rest of her life.
I am hoping we can help make a difference and relieve Vanda, Alexia and Almor of the financial difficulty this has had on their family and to help provide the proper care that Vanda needs and deserves.
We hope that you will find it in your hearts to help ease the unexpected burden this illness has caused. On behalf of Vanda, Alexia, Almor, we thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts. Knowing that people who care are willing to lend a hand brings a sense of hope and comfort during this time.
Sincerely, Vanda, Alexia, Almor
