Fundraiser for Upendo Tena: Empowering Girls, Changing Lives:

At Turtle Dove Cambridge, we’re excited to launch a fundraising campaign in support of the Upendo Tena Initiative, an NGO in Kenya transforming the lives of young girls in underserved communities through menstrual and sexual health education.

For many girls in Kenya, menstruation creates barriers to education, health, and social integration. In rural areas like West Pokot, access to sanitary products is limited, forcing girls to rely on unsafe alternatives, such as old rags, leaves and in some cases even mud. This leads to infections, humiliation, and school absence, with many girls ultimately dropping out.

Our goal is to raise funds for reusable sanitary pads from Pad Mad Kenya, a local organization making eco-friendly, sustainable pads. Each pack costs just £5, providing a girl with a solution that lasts two years, allowing her to stay in school and learn with dignity.

We aim to support at least 50 girls in West Pokot with pad packs and access to Upendo Tena’s sexual and reproductive health education programme, which covers puberty, hygiene, and menstrual health. The program benefits both boys and girls, giving boys the knowledge to empathize with and support their peers. Any funds raised beyond our target will help expand this program to more girls in the Nakuru region, extending access to both menstrual products and education.

Additional funds extend outreach, benefiting more girls in rural areas.
