Donate to help us pay for our cat’s ER surgery

A few months ago, my place of work decided to adopt a cat for the office as a way to help with our mice problem. He is the sweetest cat in the world and everyone who meets him adores him. Shortly after adopting him it was clear he had some stomach issues. We got him meds and changed his diet to help with these issues and for a while he was doing just fine, but after another month or so he stopped eating and was very lethargic. One weekend, my partner and I decided to bring him home in hopes of cheering him up, but quickly realized he wasn’t moving from our bed and couldn’t stand or raise his head to eat. We rushed to the ER at midnight and were there for six hours as the doctors diagnosed and treated him. He was given similar meds as before, and we were told he most likely has Irritable Bowel Disorder (IBD); basically IBS for cats. Based on the recommendations of the vet, we decided it would be best if he stayed at home with us rather than returning to the office. He was on meds for just over a week, but they didn’t seem to be working as well as before. He was eating a little more, but still very lethargic. My partner and I returned home from a short trip on Saturday night and noticed he had a string coming from his butt. We called the ER again, and they informed us we would need to bring him to one a little farther that had the proper technology. Upon arrival, the staff took him back to be examined. After some time the doctor came to explain what she had found. It turns out the string we saw was not only in his butt/colon, but was wrapping around his small intestines and constricting them. She explained that the string can act like a saw slowly ripping at the organ. Without a second thought we went ahead with the surgery the doctor was recommending. We put down a deposit, and by some miracle, had two dollars to spare in our account after paying it. Luckily, our little guy did great during the surgery, but due to the string being in his body for possibly up to six weeks, it had done significant damage to his intestines. The doctor stitched up multiple holes along the intestines in order to save his life, and then informed us he would need to stay for at least 24 hours to monitor him as there are significant risks with all the sutures both at the incision site and in his intestines. We did finally get to pick him up on Monday and bring him home where he already seems to be in better spirits, and is slowly healing. Between the first ER visit, and the emergency life-saving surgery, we have racked up a significant debt. We did invest in insurance for him as soon as we knew he was going to be staying with us going forward, but unfortunately there is a two-week waiting period before the coverage kicks in and his surgery was two days shy of that mark. So, we have to foot the entire bill ourselves. This cat means so much to both of us and his health is absolutely worth the money. We are asking for donations of any size to help us pay down these bills. The two of us are just starting out in our careers and don’t have any savings or a rainy-day fund, so this debt is going to be very hard for us to pay off. We truly appreciate any help we can get. Thank you in advance.
