On February 6th, at 4:17 in the morning, Mufit’s cousin Murat’s life would, in a matter of minutes, change forever. The earthquake that struck Turkey, hit Mufit’s hometown of Iskenderun and his birth town of Antakya horrifically. Murat, his wife, and three children lived in Antakya all their lives and within minutes their world came crashing down. They lost their home, and livelihood, and sadly, Murat lost two brothers, a sister-in-law and a nephew as well as many friends and neighbors. All within minutes.

Mufit and Cliff are asking for financial donations for Murat and his family as they look to begin the rebuilding process of their lives. After six days of living in a car, and witnessing death and destruction all around them in their once idyllic and historically rich city, they have temporarily moved to another city with distant relatives.

They have lost everything. Remnants and memories of their lives are now piled under the rubble of the building that they once called home. Murat no longer has a job. And who can imagine the psychological scars of what he and his family experienced and saw?

Mufit has lost 4 cousins, several of their spouses and their children. His hometown of Iskenderun has been destroyed and will take decades to rebuild. His heart, like so many, is broken but we are determined to do our part to help those who survived these catastrophic earthquakes rebuild their lives.
