Cada año, cientos de tortugas marinas regresan a las playas de Sayulita para desovar. Sin embargo, sin protección, muchos de estos nidos se pierden debido a depredadores, la actividad humana, inundaciones y condiciones climáticas adversas. Ahí es donde intervenimos nosotros.

El Sayulita Turtle Camp es una iniciativa de conservación gestionada por voluntarios, dedicada a proteger los nidos de tortugas marinas, reubicar los huevos de forma segura y brindar a miles de crías la mejor oportunidad posible de llegar al océano.

Tan solo en la temporada 2025–2026, nuestros voluntarios protegieron 318 nidos y 26,906 huevos de tortuga golfina (*Olive Ridley*). Cada uno representaba una oportunidad para que una cría emprendiera su viaje desde nuestras costas hacia el mar. En unos 15 años, las hembras regresarán a la misma playa para poner sus propios huevos.

No recibimos financiación gubernamental. Todo lo que hacemos es posible gracias a la generosidad de personas comprometidas con la protección de estos animales increíbles.

Mientras nos preparamos para una nueva temporada de anidación, estamos recaudando 100,000 MXN para mantener nuestro campamento en funcionamiento y mejorar las instalaciones que hacen posible esta labor. Las donaciones ayudarán a proporcionar:

• Recintos de incubación seguros, velas de sombra para regular la temperatura de la arena y estructuras de protección

• Iluminación, lámparas de cabeza y linternas para los patrullajes de playa nocturnos y de madrugada

• Estanterías y espacio de almacenamiento para el equipo

• Madera, herrajes y materiales de reparación

• Palas, guantes, cubetas y herramientas esenciales

• Mantenimiento continuo y mejoras del campamento

Cuando se descubre un nido, nuestros voluntarios reubican cuidadosamente los huevos en áreas de incubación protegidas, donde pueden desarrollarse a salvo hasta eclosionar. Estos esfuerzos aumentan significativamente el número de crías de tortuga que logran llegar al mar.

Every year, hundreds of sea turtles return to the beaches of Sayulita to lay their eggs. But without protection, many of these nests are lost to predators, human activity, flooding, and severe weather. That's where we come in.

The Sayulita Turtle Camp is a volunteer-run conservation effort dedicated to protecting sea turtle nests, safely relocating eggs, and giving thousands of hatchlings the best possible chance to reach the ocean.

Last season alone, 2025-2026, our volunteers protected 318 nests and 26,906 Olive Ridley sea turtle eggs. Each one represented a chance for a hatchling to make its journey from our shores to the sea. After about 15 years, the females will return to the same beach to lay their own eggs.

We receive no government funding. Everything we do is made possible by the generosity of people who care about protecting these incredible animals.

As we prepare for a new nesting season, we are raising $100,000 MXN to keep our camp operating and improve the facilities that make this work possible. Donations will help provide:

• Secure incubation tents, shade sails to help regulate sand temperatures, and protective structures

• Lighting, headlamps, and flashlights for early morning and late-night beach patrols

• Shelving and storage for equipment

• Wood, hardware, and repair materials

• Shovels, gloves, buckets, and essential tools

• Ongoing maintenance and upgrades to the camp

When a nest is discovered, our volunteers carefully relocate the eggs to protected incubation areas where they can develop safely until they hatch. These efforts significantly increase the number of baby turtles that make it to the sea.
