Hi, my name is Susan and I am fundraising for the McFarland Family. Please consider helping a local family through a heart-stopping and difficult situation. Within 48 hours this week, their family has experienced 2 separate, near-death accidents that are drowning them with emotional and financial distress. As the sole breadwinner in her family, Carla is having to take considerable time off of work to make sure her husband and son get the best treatment and care they need. This is placing a considerable strain on her ability to stay afloat.
Many of you know Carla Castle McFarland or have worked with her through her 15+ year career working with special needs children and adults. Many of you have supported her charitable giving efforts that have helped 40+ families have Christmas gifts for their children, and meals at Thanksgiving. Maybe some of you have served meals with her during the holidays. Maybe you know her as a dedicated mother and have cheered with her and her husband court-side or on the field for her daughter, an honor roll student and creative entrepreneur. Or for her son, a passionate basketball athlete and honor roll star. Maybe you are one of the countless businesses she has recommended, that benefited from a surge in sales. Or one of the many who enjoyed a meal or service at a restaurant or business she highly recommended. Maybe you are one of her friends from working at over 11 schools in the county. Or one of the families whose child made academic, social or emotional growth in her care. Carla does everything with her whole heart and over the years of knowing her, she remains astonishingly resilient, positive and courageous from one awful circumstance to the next. She puts on a brave face and brings joy into the lives of others. She puts everyone ahead of herself. It has been endlessly inspiring!
Her family network has shrunk over the past 3 years. Her mother, father and sister have all passed away, and Carla took care of each of them during their end-of-life journeys. Over the past two years, her son has needed multiple surgeries for sports-related injuries and she kept him hopeful and driven through the recoveries. Her husband has been permanently disabled from a sports-related injury throughout most of their 25-year marriage. The medical expenses have been a debilitating burden for most of her adult life and have contributed to her perseverance as well as the need to continually maintain side hustles.
This year her family has navigated through moments of indescribable grief and vulnerability. Her husband will need to remain inpatient for care over several weeks from injuries sustained during a personal crisis. Her brand-new driver was in a single-car accident this past week on his way home from a friend’s house. He flipped his car in the rain and is fortunate to walk away from it, but now they are down a vehicle and 2 drivers, placing the burden of transportation solely on Carla. This impacts her ability to fulfill the pet-sitting side business she and her family started this summer. It impacts her son’s ability to get to ongoing PT services and medical care for his other injuries. It impacts both her kids from getting to their practices and games as well as their volunteer activities. Mostly, it impacts her ability to process all that has happened over the past several horrendous years, get to work, and not worry that her family’s basic needs of food, shelter, and utilities will be compromised.
Maybe you are just a really kind person who is willing to lift up a person who needs grace in a personal storm.
Please consider contributing to this Go Fund Me campaign to support Carla’s family through the summer. This giving campaign will provide her with the monetary support that her family needs to access the things that they require during this difficult time. All funds will go directly to the McFarland Family.
Having one less burden will truly help her family get back on their feet. Thank you for being the village she needs right now!
