Laura LeClaire and her son Jayce were involved in a snowmobile accident Saturday, January 14th while on a family trip in Iron Mountain. While Jayce sustained no injuries from the accident, Laura endured life-threatening injuries which include; a brain bleed, radial fracture, elbow dislocation/fractures, multiple rib fractures, shattered right pelvis, and multiple left pelvic fractures. She is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Her first of many surgeries was completed today (January 16th), and it went well. Today's surgery will allow her to eventually sit up and get into a chair. There are two more surgeries planned this week. Laura and her family have a long road ahead of them which will include more surgeries and extensive physical therapy.
The fundraising efforts will go towards medical bills and other unanticipated costs/lost wages during this time to help support Laura, Derek, and their four children. If you know this family, you know they would give the shirt off their back to help others at a moment's notice. An event like this is something we all fear, but I know Derek and Laura have a village rooting for them. My hope with this fundraiser is to lessen part of this tremendous load.
In Derek's words, "The outpouring of prayers, love, and support has kept me level-headed the last couple of days. As I sit with Laura I can only imagine how she is going to feel through all this and her long path to recovery. Keep the prayers coming, they are working."
We will continue to provide updates on Laura's CaringBridge site (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/lauraleclaire). Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider donating.
