Karns Family Lost Everything In Fire

Hi, we are the Karns family: Philip (me) and Jessica Karns (daughter of Jean Kreischer), Cameron Bogart and Bradley Kreischer-Morgan.

On Thursday, April 7th, the day started as just about every other day: I was at work (contract security supervisor), the boys were at school, and Jessica (a disabled veteran) was at a VA appointment.

While at work, I started receiving text messages from my dad, stating that there was a fire at our house. He kept me up to date on what came across the scanner as I tried frantically to find coverage for my post and to contact Jessica.

Jessica arrived at the house just before I did. The fire was out, and we were both devastated; we lost everything, including our 4 dogs and 3 cats (a golden retriever, Duke, 4-yr-old - Jessica's service dog, a 2-yr-old Doberman, Nyx, a 1.5-yr-old German Shepherd, Apollo, and a 3-month-old Irish Setter mix puppy. The cats: Squirt, 14 yrs old, Piper. 2.5 yrs old, and Zora, 5 months old - the runt of her litter).

To add insult to injury, almost a month ago Jessica fell off the roof of the house, breaking her left wrist and a single vertebra in her lower back. I will be having bladder surgery in June.

We are currently staying in a Holiday Inn Express roughly 20 miles from what remains of our house; the structure stands but is gutted. We are trying our hardest to get our lives back to some form of normalcy.

We are hoping to raise money for necessities: healthcare items, food, travel expenses, as we now have to drive the kids to school and pick them up daily from out of town, and some medical expenses.
