As many of you know, particularly my extended military family, (Ret. SMSgt) Dennis Compton and I served in Aviano, Italy together, along with many people that are reading this. During that time, Dennis and I certainly kept the humor going between our daily pranks on one another, and 18 years later we still keep that same humor going, bantering back and forth on text and social media.
Dennis's family also became part of he and I's friendship. Yesterday, Dennis's daughter Nerissa contacted me and told me "Dad's on life support. Please Pray".
Nerissa and I have been communicating all night and throughout the day today. Dennis had a minor heart attack back in October and had a stent placed, but soon after that he suffered from heart and respiratory failure causing sever swelling. Unfortunately, not understanding what was happening, Dennis assumed the swelling to be standard protocol, and it therefore went untreated until last weekend when he was admitted into the Mercy Hospital ICU (Rogers, AK) where he immediately fell into a coma and has been on life support since.
Dennis has been unable to work since October and Nerissa has been helping her Dad stay on top of his bills, but this is difficult for her considering that she also has a family, including children of her own. Nerissa only told me this because I asked how she was holding up and what can I do to help.
Please help me take this burden off of Dennis's family, and off of Dennis (Nerissa also shared with me that he has been stressed out about not working since October). I know that Christmas is right around the corner, and inflation is running at a "cool" 47% rate (and not the 7% government typo), but if you can find it in your heart to give something, we need to help out a brother in arms, a friend, a father....and maybe even a stranger. Help out a great man that loves and adores his two daughters, his son, and grandchildren. Help out a man, and a family, that needs our support. Help out a man who dedicated a career to defending the freedoms of this great country. I always cherished the commodore of the military...knowing that no matter where we are in the world, when another brother or sister in arms calls, we always answer the call.
Above all else, whether you can donate or not donate, we need the power of your prayers. Please pray for Dennis to recover and please pray for peace and comfort for his family during this difficult time.
Lastly, for those of you that know Dennis, you know he will not ask for help (he's very prideful), but he needs our help, so I'm asking for him.
Thank you so much for your consideration, my hope is to raise enough money to help him get caught up and to help support him for what I perceive to be a long road of recovery ahead.
